For more than fifty years, printmaker and painter Gustave Baumann (1881–1971) captured the crystalline light and rich, soft colors of the American Southwest with subtlety and grace. He worked in gouache and watercolor, but his principal medium was the woodcut. This calendar’s twelve woodcuts reveal the affectionate celebration of place by an artist who never lost his awe of the natural grandeur of his surroundings.
