On the Navajo Reservation near Page, Arizona, the canyon was formed over centuries as floodwaters relentlessly scoured out fissures in the soft sandstone. Sunlight filtering down from high above bathes the canyon’s multicolored walls and sandy floor in warm glowing light, revealing a luscious palette of yellows, oranges, and reds—and, depending on the time of day, perhaps purples and blues as well.
